The DAAD scholarship is a major source of funding for international students and researchers who want to study or conduct research in Germany. DAAD stands for the German Academic Exchange Service. It offers different scholarship programs, and the requirements, funding, degree level, and deadlines depend on the specific program.
For students planning to study in Germany, the DAAD scholarship 2026 and upcoming 2027 opportunities can be explored through the official DAAD scholarship database.
What Is the DAAD Scholarship?
The DAAD scholarship is not one single scholarship. It is a group of funding opportunities for different academic purposes, including master’s studies, doctoral research, postgraduate education, and research projects.
The official DAAD database allows applicants to search for programs according to their academic level, subject, country, and study plans.
DAAD Scholarship for International Students
International students can find different DAAD scholarships in Germany depending on their academic background and the specific program.
Some programs support master’s studies, while others focus on doctoral research or research stays. Therefore, students should check the eligibility criteria for each scholarship instead of assuming that one set of requirements applies to every DAAD program.
DAAD Scholarship for Master’s Students
The DAAD scholarship for master’s students is available through specific study scholarship programs.
For example, the DAAD Study Scholarships for Master Studies program requires applicants to provide academic documents and a curriculum vitae, as well as a statement explaining their academic and personal reasons for the planned study project.
Language requirements also depend on the language of instruction. Accepted proof can include English or German language certificates, depending on the program.
DAAD Scholarship for PhD Students
DAAD also has funding opportunities for doctoral students and researchers. Requirements vary by program.
For some research grant programs, applicants must meet specific conditions related to the start of their doctorate, research project, academic background, and residence status.
DAAD Scholarship for Undergraduate Students
Students looking for a DAAD scholarship for undergraduate study should carefully search the official database because DAAD programs are not all designed for bachelor’s-level study.
Do not assume that every DAAD scholarship supports undergraduate degrees. Check the individual program’s academic level and eligibility requirements before applying.
